This is a draft. It might be incomplete or have errors.
Regarding what happened to my old laptop (written on the previous post) and to the fact that it’s specs were now overwhelmed, I bought a new computer.
I had some requests when searching for a new laptop: – It must be not be from some crappy manufacturer like Acer. – It must not have an ATi (because I like to have eyecandy stuff on Linux). – The screen must be less then 15.4″. – It must not be too expansive.
I finally decided on an Asus X20s, just great!
I readily installed Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon on it (using the whole HD and sending Vista to hell) and everything worked out of the box except for the soundcard which was detected but didn’t play a thing.
This problem was solved by adding the following line to the end of the file /etc/modprobe.
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo
And that was it! Works like a charm.
Next mission: fight Asus to get my Vista refund as I didn’t accept the license.
